PA-president Mahmoud Abbas heeft gezworen het Israëlische beleid te bestrijden met “vreedzaam verzet”, onder meer door actie te ondernemen in internationale instanties.

Het Palestijnse leiderschap heeft verklaard dat de komende Israëlische regering onder leiding van de voorgedragen premier Benjamin Netanyahu en zijn “extreem-rechtse fascistische” coalitiepartners tot een “explosie” zal leiden.
De Palestijnse Autoriteit riep de internationale gemeenschap op, de regering-Biden en de Europese Unie om hun betrekkingen met de regering-Netanyahu opnieuw te beoordelen “in de mate van haar betrokkenheid bij het internationaal recht, internationale legitimiteitsbesluiten en mensenrechtenprincipes.”
Volgens de Israëlische publieke omroep ‘Kan’ zal Netanyahu veel controle over de bouw in Judea en Samaria overdragen aan het hoofd van het religieus zionisme, Bezalel Smotrich, een stap die het Palestijnse ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken zei dat het “met grote ernst” beschouwt.
De maatregel zou de weg kunnen vrijmaken voor Israël om de Israëlische wet uit te breiden over delen van Judea en Samaria, waarschuwde het ministerie.
Het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken van de PA uitte ook zijn bezorgdheid over een coalitie-eis van MK Itamar Ben-Gvir die de doodstraf eist voor veroordeelde terroristen, en zei dat het hoofd van Otzma Yehudit een “vrijbrief” zou hebben om te doden.
“Het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken waarschuwde voor de gevaren van de uitvoering van deze overeenkomsten voor het conflict en de hele regio, met name de consequenties van de verandering van de status quo in Jeruzalem en zijn heilige plaatsen, waarvan de belangrijkste de gezegende Al-Aqsa moskee is,” aldus een verklaring van het ministerie.

“Wij zullen de handelwijze van de bezettingsautoriteiten niet accepteren, en wij zullen hen confronteren met vreedzaam volksverzet en binnen alle internationale organisaties en rechtbanken,” zei Abbas volgens de Jerusalem Post tijdens een boodschap aan de christelijke Palestijnen aan de vooravond van Kerstmis.
Abbas riep de internationale gemeenschap op “een einde te maken aan haar stilzwijgen en een einde te maken aan de Israëlische misdaden, waaronder de uitbreiding van nederzettingen, de annexatie van land en de oprichting van een racistisch koloniaal regime.”
Hij herhaalde zijn oproep voor “een onafhankelijke Palestijnse staat met Oost-Jeruzalem en de terugkeer van de vluchtelingen.” De terugkeer van de zogenaamde Palestijnse vluchtelingen, die in de miljoenen lopen, zou met demografische middelen het einde van de Joodse staat betekenen.

The Palestinian leadership has said that the incoming Israeli government led by Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu and his “far-right fascist” coalition partners will lead to an “explosion.”
The Palestinian Authority called on the international community, the Biden administration, and the European Union to reassess their relations with the Netanyahu government “to the extent of its commitment to international law, international legitimacy decisions, and human rights principles.”
According to Israel’s Kan public broadcaster, Netanyahu will surrender much control over construction in Judea and Samaria to Religious Zionism head, Bezalel Smotrich, a move the Palestinian foreign affairs ministry said it views “with great seriousness.”
The move could pave the way for Israel to extend Israeli law over swaths of Judea and Samaria, the ministry warned.
The PA foreign ministry also raised concerns over a coalition demand by MK Itamar Ben-Gvir which calls for the death sentence for convicted terrorists, saying the Otzma Yehudit head would have a “license” to kill.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned of the dangers of implementing these agreements on the conflict and the entire region, especially the repercussions of changing the status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites, foremost of which is the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque,” a statement by the ministry said.

“We will not accept the practices of the occupying authorities, and we will confront them with peaceful popular resistance and in all international forums and courts,” Abbas was cited by the Jerusalem Post as saying during a message to Christian Palestinians on the eve of Christmas.
Abbas called on the international community to “end its silence and stop Israeli crimes, including settlement expansion, the annexation of lands, and the creation of a racist colonial regime.”
He reiterated his call for “an independent Palestinian state with eastern Jerusalem and the return of refugees.” The return of so-called Palestinian refugees, who number in the millions, would mean the end of the Jewish state by demographic means.
